As South Florida continues to grow and its infrastructure ages, water filtration has become one of our most requested services. Whether you live in a historic home in Fort Lauderdale or a newer development in Coral Springs, plumbing systems face unique stresses in our climate. Priscilla's Plumbing brings four generations of family plumbing know-how—and 15+ years of Priscilla's own hands-on experience—to solve these issues permanently.
Every water filtration job we run starts with diagnosis, not a sales pitch. Our crews arrive with cameras, acoustic listening gear, pressure isolation kits, and a full inventory of common-failure parts on the truck — so most water filtration calls are resolved on the first visit, with a flat-rate written quote you approve before we lift a wrench. Below is exactly what we look for, exactly what we do, what it typically costs, and what to expect from start to finish.
About Water Filtration in South Florida
South Florida water is safe to drink at the meter, but by the time it reaches your fixtures it has done meaningful work on your plumbing. Our water is hard (high in calcium and magnesium), chloraminated (which is harder to remove than free chlorine), and contains varying levels of TDS depending on which utility serves you. The visible symptoms are familiar: white scale on faucets and showerheads, soap that does not lather, glass shower doors that spot, ice cubes that look cloudy, and water heaters and tankless units that scale faster than they should. The invisible symptoms — shortened appliance life, scale narrowing the inside of supply pipes, premature water heater failure — are more expensive.
Whole-house water filtration solves these problems comprehensively when sized to your actual water and household demand. The right system for most Broward County homes combines a high-capacity carbon block (for chloramine and taste/odor removal) with a softener (for calcium and magnesium hardness reduction), and optionally a sediment pre-filter if your supply runs particularly turbid. Sizing is based on a real water test — TDS, hardness, chloramine level, iron, sulfur — not on a sticker on the side of a tank. We test your water before quoting and we recommend the smallest system that actually solves your conditions.
Reverse osmosis at the kitchen sink is a separate decision from whole-house filtration and serves a different purpose. RO removes nearly all dissolved solids — including the ones (calcium, magnesium) that a softener removes elsewhere — and produces water that is excellent for drinking, cooking, ice, and coffee. Under-sink RO systems are straightforward to install, require an annual filter change, and the membrane lasts 3 to 5 years. We recommend RO at the kitchen tap and primary fridge supply, paired with whole-house carbon-and-softener for everything else, as the configuration that solves the most problems at the lowest long-term cost.
Installation matters more than equipment selection. A water filtration system that is plumbed without bypass valves, without proper drain routing for the softener regeneration cycle, or in a location that is inaccessible for filter changes will frustrate every service technician who comes after us. We install with full bypass, with a service-friendly equipment pad, with proper drain connections, and with the cartridge change schedule taped to the unit so future maintenance is straightforward. We also offer annual service contracts that cover filter changes, salt delivery for softeners, and a yearly system performance check.
Water Filtration done right in Broward County is not a commodity, and we do not price it that way. Every water filtration job we close gets the same three things: a licensed plumber on site (not a helper running calls solo), a written flat-rate quote signed before any work begins, and a written warranty packet at job close that you keep with your home records. We service a deliberately tight radius around our Oakland Park shop because being close to our customers is how we maintain response time, build long-term relationships, and stand behind the work we do. If you are weighing water filtration options for your home or business and want a straight conversation rather than a sales pitch, call us — we will tell you honestly whether what you are seeing is something we can fix today, something to plan for next quarter, or something that does not actually need to be fixed at all. We grew up in this trade, our family has been laying pipe in South Florida for four generations, and our entire reputation rides on the quality of every job we send a truck on. There are no shortcuts on a water filtration call from us, no upsells you did not ask for, no surprise charges that were not on the written quote you signed. That is the standard, and we apply it on every job from a single faucet swap to a whole-house repipe.
